The 65th Annual Grammys was held at the Crypto.com Arena Los Angeles California on Sunday February 5th 2023 with Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems becoming the first Nigerian female artist to win a Grammy Award.
The Essence crooner won the award for her contribution to the smashing hit single ‘Wait For U’ by American rapper Future featuring Canadian rapper, Drake.
Other songs nominated for the category won by Tems included beautiful by DJ Khaled Featuring Future & SZA, First class by Jack Harlow, Die Hard by Kendrick Lamar Featuring Blxst & Amanda Reifer, Big Energy by Latto and Wait for you by Future featuring Drake and Tems was the number 1 song nominated making Tems the winner of the grammys award for her effort in the song
Expectedly, music lovers took to their social media handles to congratulate Tems for the milestone achievement.

The 27 years old artist is famous for her historic feat in the Nigerian music industry. She became the first Nigerian artist to receive an Oscar nomination for her contribution to Rihanna’s ‘Lift Me Up’, a track recorded for the movie ‘Wakanda Forever’. She also made history as the first Nigerian and African female musician to win the Best International Act at the BET Awards in 2022.
The Grammy Awards are presented by the Recording Academy of the United States to recognize “outstanding” achievements in the music industry. They are regarded by many as the most prestigious, significant awards in the music industry worldwide.
