Hongqi, a renowned car brand under China’s leading automaker FAW Group Co., Ltd., has reported a remarkable sales performance for January. According to the group’s announcement on Thursday, Hongqi sold over 40,000 vehicles in January alone, marking an impressive 82.9% increase compared to the previous year.
The brand’s success is further highlighted by its accumulated sales of 370,000 vehicles in the previous year, representing a substantial 29.5% growth compared to 2022. Notably, over 85,000 of these sales were attributed to Hongqi’s new energy vehicles (NEVs), reflecting a notable 135% year-on-year increase.
FAW Group is actively focusing on the promotion of its NEV models, with plans to launch 30 new NEV products from 2023 to 2025. Among these, eight will be marketed under the Hongqi brand.
Hongqi, which translates to “red flag,” holds a significant position as China’s iconic sedan brand. Established in 1958, the brand has a rich history, with its vehicles often featured in national celebrations and parades. FAW Group, the producer behind Hongqi, was founded in 1953 in Changchun, Jilin Province, and is widely recognized as the birthplace of China’s auto industry.
