In a move to boost its tourism industry, China has announced a new policy allowing visa-free entry for foreign tourist groups traveling on cruise ships to the country’s coastal regions.
The National Immigration Administration (NIA) stated that tourist groups of two or more foreigners, organized or received by Chinese travel agencies, can now enter China visa-free via 13 designated cruise ship ports along the country’s coastline. These ports include major cities such as Shanghai, Tianjin, Guangzhou, and Sanya.
The policy stipulates that members of the tourist group must enter China together and remain on the same cruise ship until it departs the country. The tourists are permitted to stay in China for up to 15 days and can visit coastal provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions, as well as the capital city of Beijing.
This new measure is seen as a strategic move by the Chinese government to attract more foreign tourists and boost the country’s tourism industry, which has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in recent years. By offering a more streamlined and convenient entry process, China hopes to make it easier for international travelers to explore its coastal regions and experience the country’s rich cultural heritage.
The implementation of this visa-free policy is expected to provide a significant boost to the cruise tourism industry in China, as well as create new economic opportunities for local travel agencies and businesses in the designated port cities.
