The vibrant spirit of cultural exchange was on full display at the 2024 China-Nigeria Fashion Show, held at the China Cultural Center in Abuja.
The event, co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, the China General Chamber of Commerce in Nigeria, and the China Cultural Center, attracted over 300 guests, including officials from the Chinese embassy, representatives from Chinese-funded enterprises, Nigerian government officials, and fashion industry stakeholders.
The fashion show featured breathtaking displays from both Chinese and Nigerian models, who took to the runway dressed in a stunning array of traditional costumes, reflecting the rich heritage of both nations. The evening was divided into three captivating themes that transported attendees on a journey through history and culture.
The first theme, “Flower Rain along the Silk Road,” evoked the ancient trade routes that connected cultures, showcasing the elegance of the Han and Tang dynasties. The second theme, “Harmony Across Sea and Sky,” celebrated the Maritime Silk Road, featuring a collection of exquisite cheongsams that highlighted the grace of Eastern beauty, accompanied by the soothing sounds of ocean waves.
The final theme, “Walking Together on the Great Road,” emphasized the unique charm of cultural integration, presenting a fusion of traditional Nigerian and Chinese costumes.
Following the impressive fashion displays, cash prizes and certificates were awarded to the top ten models from both Nigeria and China, recognizing their talent and creativity.
Li Xuda, Cultural Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria and Director of the China Cultural Center said the fashion show aims to promote cultural exchange, mutual understanding, and traditional friendship between China and Nigeria.
“Both countries have an ancient history and a rich culture, and events like this strengthen the bond between our people and improve the relationship between our nations.”
Li also mentioned plans to invite Nigerian designers to China for fashion exchange programs, aiming to foster growth in the fashion industries of both countries.
