China’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai says China is ready to fastrack the implementation zero Tariff treatment for Nigerian Exports.
He made the disclosure during a high-level meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to Yu, this move aligns with China’s broader policy of supporting developing economies and enhancing mutually beneficial trade.
He described China–Nigeria relations as having “entered the fast-track,” crediting the momentum to sustained efforts from both governments.
The envoy referenced China’s newly released Recommendations of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China for Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan, noting that the document reaffirms Beijing’s commitment to expanding high-standard opening-up and sharing development opportunities—particularly with strategic partners like Nigeria.
He added that China would continue to back Nigeria’s security initiatives, including counterterrorism efforts, underscoring both countries’ tradition of supporting each other on matters of core interest.
The Ambassador also noted that preparations are in progress for the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Nigeria in 2026. Additionally, the China–Africa Year of Cultural Exchanges is expected to promote deeper people-to-people ties, cultural cooperation, and shared understanding. These events, Yu noted, will help consolidate trust and deliver tangible benefits to citizens of both nations.
On his part, Foreign Minister Tuggar reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to its comprehensive strategic partnership with China. He expressed appreciation for China’s ongoing support toward Nigeria’s economic and social development and reiterated Abuja’s adherence to the one-China principle.
Tuggar emphasized Nigeria’s readiness to align its national development strategies more closely with China’s.
He highlighted opportunities for expanded cooperation in manufacturing, trade, and investment, stressing that strengthening these areas would help elevate bilateral relations “to new heights.”
