Yang Jianxing, Director of the China Cultural Center in Nigeria says China will enhance cooperation with Nigeria in the entertainment sector.
He made the disclosure while speaking at the 5th Entertainment and Peace Summit held at the centre in Abuja on Saturday.
The event, organized by Drum Majors for Peace, commemorated World Peace Day 2024 under the theme “Cultivating a Culture of Peace.”
In his remarks, Yang emphasized the crucial role of entertainment in promoting global peace and harmony.
“Entertainment is essential for our lives. Despite cultural differences, people universally share common emotions. Life is not always happy. Sometimes we feel sad, and entertainment can help us relax and forget our worries,” he said.
Yang pledged to deepen collaboration between the entertainment industries of both nations throughout his tenure, recognizing cultural exchange as a vital tool for fostering mutual understanding.
“We must deepen the mutual understanding between our peoples,” he said, identifying the entertainment industry and cultural trade as key avenues for achieving this goal.
He expressed optimism that this partnership would yield significant benefits for workers in both countries’ entertainment sectors. Yang encouraged Nigerian entertainers to engage with their Chinese counterparts, fostering communication and cultural exchange.
“The cooperation of entertainment between the two countries will be more important in the future,” he added.
Ambassador Nsikan Paul, Executive Director of Drum Majors for Peace, also spoke at the summit, reiterating the organization’s commitment to promoting peace, inclusivity, and social cohesion through entertainment and dialogue.
“Through positive entertainment and meaningful dialogue, we aim to build sustainable cities and communities that are inclusive, fair, and resilient; aligning our efforts with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals,” he said.
