The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, say the People’s Republic of China has promised to support Nigeria’s technological advancements and security capabilities.
Tuggar, who is currently on a week-long diplomatic visit to China, disclosed this via his verified X (formerly Twitter) handle after the first Plenary Session of the Nigeria-China Intergovernmental Committee, which he co-chaired with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, in Beijing.
The session, which marked a milestone in the longstanding bilateral ties between the two countries, reviewed over 50 years of robust cooperation, emphasizing mutual support in international fora like the United Nations. The two sides also explored new avenues of collaboration in infrastructure, agriculture, and digital economies.
“The session highlighted the importance of the Belt and Road Initiative and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) in fostering a multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization,” Tuggar said.
According to the minister, both Nigeria and China agreed to enhance partnerships across various sectors and create a business-friendly environment. They also reaffirmed their commitments to good governance, regional stability, and economic development, including a currency swap agreement to facilitate trade.
Tuggar, who has held several engagements with Chinese companies, business leaders, and other stakeholders during his visit, said that since the establishment of bilateral ties, Nigeria and China have established a win-win relationship anchored on mutual respect and shared prosperity.
