China Media Group (CMG) held its 2024 Copyright Ecology Cooperation Conference in Beijing on Wednesday.
One of the main broadcasters for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games accredited by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), CMG signed coverage agreements for the international sporting event with China Mobile’s entertainment platform Migu and popular short video platforms such as Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.
It also signed copyright cooperation agreements with several major publishers, including the China Publishing Group.
Peng Jianming, general director of CMG’s executive office, said copyright protection and development play an important role in stimulating the vitality of innovation in society, protecting scientific and technological innovation and cultural and creative achievements, and promoting high-quality economic and social development.
He said that as a comprehensive international media carrier with the largest volume and scale, the most business forms, the most extensive coverage and the largest program production in the world, CMG has a massive reserve of copyright resources and a strong capacity for original content production, exemplified by several excellent brand programs with a deep audience base and huge social impact, as well as high-quality content products that highlight the courage and cultural confidence of the country.
Peng said the signing activity aims to further gather industry wisdom, taking copyright as a link, the Paris Olympic Games copyright cooperation signing as an opportunity, and win-win as the goal to drive the new quality productive forces and communication power of CMG.
Yan Xiaohong, chairman of the Copyright Society of China, said that as a global sports event, the Olympic Games have the broadest audience. It is not only the pinnacle of sports competition but also a bridge of cultural exchange, which contains huge commercial value.
Yan said copyright protection is particularly important to the globally watched event and that the society will ensure that the Olympic logo, events, etc., are not abused or infringed upon.
Yan expressed hope that a good copyright ecology can be formed through the Olympic copyright trade, adding that the ecology will not only promote the development of the sports industry but also promote international cooperation and exchanges.
Sun Baolin, director general of the China Copyright Protection Center, said copyright plays an important role in the formation and development of new high-quality productive forces. It is of great significance for China to maintain the image of a big country that honors its commitment.
Zang Yongqing, vice president of China Publishing & Media Co., Ltd, said the company’s cooperation with CMG enjoys a profound historical foundation and broad practical space. Zang said the company hopes to take this opportunity to give full play to the resource endowment and characteristic advantages of both sides and further develop with high-quality copyright.
Anne-Sophie Voumard of the IOC thanked CMG via video message for its unremitting efforts in broadcasting and reporting the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
She said the IOC will work with partners, including CMG, to remember the importance of respecting copyright laws and intellectual property rights and create an environment in sports that values intellectual property rights and innovation.
A special campaign aimed at the innovative development and management of CMG’s valuable intellectual property resources was also launched during the conference to promote the creative evolution of fine traditional culture.
