An Oyo state high court has dismissed the appeal filed by embattled Oyo state Deputy Governor, Mr Rauf Olaniyan against the state house of assembly for initiating an impeachment process against him.
The assembly had initiated moves to impeach the Deputy Governor shortly after his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The House in a letter read by the Clerk accused Olaniyan of financial recklessness, gross misconduct, and insubordination.
Mr Olaniyan later instituted a suit against the House of Assembly, the clerk and the speaker, Adebo Ogundoyin, over the impeachment moves.
The court presided over by Justice Ladiran Akintola in its ruling dismissed the suit filed by Olaniyan insisting that the lawmakers have the right to remove the deputy governor from office.
The judge maintained that the House of Assembly has not breached the provisions of the law on the removal of a governor or deputy governor.
According to Akintola, the lawmakers substantially complied with the provisions of Section 188 of the Constitution on the removal process.
The court said the lawmakers should continue with the removal process.
