In a celebration of global culinary delights, the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism (NIHOTOUR) is set to host the annual NIHOTOUR Gastronomy Festival in Abuja, Nigeria.
According to a press statement from, Joesef Karim, Public Relations Officer of NIHOTOUR, the highly anticipated event, scheduled for May 31st, 2024, will showcase the diverse cuisines of several countries, including Spain, China, Senegal, Congo DR, and Trinidad and Tobago.
The NIHOTOUR Gastronomy Festival, a flagship event in the realm of gastronomy tourism, has consistently attracted over 5,000 visitors and tourists since its inception in 2021. This year’s theme is “Sustainable Food Production from Farm to Table.”
In addition to the international cuisine showcases, the festival will also feature exhibitions of Nigerian foods and beverages from across the country’s six geographic zones, as well as signature dishes from leading chefs and restaurant franchises in Nigeria. The event will further entertain visitors with a live cake-making competition among culinary schools in Abuja.
As a highlight of this year’s festival, the Spanish Embassy in Nigeria, in partnership with NIHOTOUR, will host a Masterclass for culinary schools and chefs in Lagos on May 26th and in Abuja on May 29th. The celebrated Spanish chef, Alex Marugan, and his team will lead the masterclass, sharing their expertise and inspiring the next generation of culinary professionals.
The statement noted that the NIHOTOUR Gastronomy Festival will culminate in a Gala & Award Night, where NIHOTOUR will induct new Fellows of the Institute (FHTI) for their outstanding contributions to the growth and development of the hospitality and tourism sectors in Nigeria. The evening will be filled with live musical performances by leading artists, creating a festive atmosphere to celebrate the rich diversity of Nigeria’s culinary landscape.
