The second edition of the International Technology and Communications (ITEC) Expo kicked off on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Center in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.
Organized by Afrinex West Africa Limited in partnership with the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), the opening ceremony was attended by government officials, industry leaders, innovators, and technology enthusiasts.
In his welcome remarks, Somadina Johnson Anene, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, said the expo, with the theme: “Building Wealth through Opportunities in Technology and Communications,” aims to call the attention of all relevant stakeholders, both the private and public sectors, to the enormous opportunities and potentials in the technology and ICT sectors.
“We know that a lot of opportunities are available in telecommunications, ICT, renewable energy, and everything that has to do with technology and communication. But these opportunities have not been fully harnessed,” Anene said.
He stressed that the expo is not just about showcasing the latest innovations, but to ignite a paradigm shift, where technology and communications are at the forefront of Nigeria’s private and public sector initiatives.
Declaring the expo open, Doris Anite, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, represented by Yusuf Hassan Muhammed, emphasized the Nigerian government’s commitment to harnessing the power of technology and communication to improve the lives of its citizens.
The minister stated that the federal government plans to equip at least five million people with artificial intelligence and cybersecurity skills in the next two to three years.
“Artificial intelligence is the game changer, and we must begin to look at how we can effectively deploy them in the various sectors of our economy, such as education, health, transportation, energy, and agriculture, to improve productivity,” she said.
Other keynote speakers emphasized the role of technology and ICT in wealth creation and stimulating productivity, economic growth, and development.
The ITEC Expo, which runs until July 12, 2024, will feature a wide range of exhibitors, covering sectors such as telecommunications, ICT, renewable energy, and various technology-driven industries.
Attendees will have the opportunity to network, explore cutting-edge solutions, and gain insights from industry experts on how to leverage technology and communications to drive business growth and national development.
