Chinese President Xi Jinping has reiterated the importance of the “one country, two systems” policy, stating that it is a good policy that must be adhered to for a long time.
Xi made the remarks while addressing a gathering in Macao to mark the 25th anniversary of the region’s return to China.
Xi emphasized that the policy has proven to be highly effective, with Macao’s achievements since its return demonstrating the policy’s institutional strengths and vitality.
He noted that the policy helps maintain long-term prosperity and stability in Hong Kong and Macao, serves the cause of building a stronger China, and promotes peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation between different social systems.
The Chinese President also highlighted the values of peace, inclusiveness, openness, and sharing embodied in the policy, stating that these values are shared by China and the rest of the world, and deserve to be jointly safeguarded.
Xi’s remarks come as Macao celebrates a quarter century of its return to China, marking a significant milestone in the region’s history.
The “one country, two systems” policy has been instrumental in maintaining Macao’s stability and prosperity, and Xi’s reaffirmation of the policy is seen as a commitment to its continued implementation.
