The federal government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China principle as part of its foreign policy direction.
This commitment aligns with Nigeria’s stance on Non-alignment, Equality of all States, Non-interference in the domestic affairs of other states, Multilateralism, and Afrocentrism.
Hon. Ja’afaru Yakubu, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Nigeria-China Relations, emphasized Nigeria’s unwavering position on the one-China principle in a statement released on Thursday.
He said despite the recent election in Taiwan, Nigeria’s relationship with China, based on the One-China principle, remains steadfast.
According to Hon. Ja’afaru, Nigeria recognizes that there is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an integral part of China’s territory.
“There is but one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory, and the Government of the People’s Republic of China is the sole legal government representing the whole of China,” Hon Jaafaru said, stating that Nigeria opposes any separatist activities aimed at “Taiwan independence” and foreign interference in the internal affairs of other states.
The lawmaker expressed Nigeria’s full support for China’s efforts to achieve peaceful reunification.
