The rich tourism potential of China’s Henan Province was prominently featured at the “Nihao! China” Tourism Course held at the China Cultural Center in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.

Co-hosted by the China Cultural Center and the Youth Tourism Development Organization (YTDO), the event attracted tourism stakeholders and enthusiasts including Mallam Abdallah Yusuf, former Director General,  National Commission for Museum and Monuments (NCMM), Rose Kwarsen, former Director of Cultural Industries in the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy and Ngozi John-Uyah, Director of Special Duties in the National Gallery of Arts.

Tourism expert Mrs Wang led the presentation, offering attendees an in-depth exploration of Henan, renowned as the birthplace of Shaolin Kung Fu and the cradle of Chinese characters. Her engaging discussion highlighted the province’s historical significance while showcasing its stunning natural landscapes and cultural resources.

To bring Henan to life, Mrs. Wang presented a captivating video that offered guests a glimpse into the province’s charm and appeal. The interactive session included a brief quiz designed to engage the audience and test their knowledge about Henan, making the event both educational and entertaining.

Mrs. Wang also detailed four major cities in Henan, starting with Zhengzhou, the province’s capital. As a major economic and transportation hub, Zhengzhou features a diverse industrial base that includes manufacturing, textiles, and technology, positioning it as a key player in the clothing import and export trade.

Emmanuel Okon, President and founder of the Youth Tourism Development Organization (YTDO), explained that the course seeks to benefit participants by sharing insights into China’s advanced tourism development strategies.

“The purpose is to promote both countries’ tourism and cultural potentials,” he said, emphasizing the importance of learning from China’s achievements in the sector.

On the long-term benefits for participants, Mr. Emmanuel expressed optimism about potential opportunities for travel to China. “I believe that it’s going to snowball into exchange programs that will allow participants to experience what they learn here,” he noted.

The YTDO President emphasized the need for a robust tourism infrastructure, including improved road networks, adequate security and a comprehensive tourism master plan, to attract local and foreign investments.

Certificate of National Patronship was presented to the Executive Secretary/CEO of the National Institute for Cultural Orientation, Otunba Abiodun Ajiboye. Participants also got certificates of attendance at the event.

In July, the China Cultural Center announced the 2024 Silk Road Tourism Overseas Promotion Season, set to run till September. This initiative aims to enhance cooperation along the Silk Road by showcasing the breathtaking natural scenery, diverse ethnic cultures, and rich heritage of cities along the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. It reflects China’s commitment to fostering global exchange and cooperation, celebrating the shared heritage that connects Eastern and Western civilizations.

The China Cultural Center promotes cultural exchanges between China and Nigeria. Through various events and promotional activities, the centre strives to enhance mutual understanding and appreciation of both countries’ rich cultural heritages.
