The People’s Education Press (PEP) of China, in partnership with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Nigeria, has donated sets of books to Chinese Corner schools under the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Secondary Education Board.

Speaking at the donation ceremony in Abuja on Thursday,  Yang Jianxing, Cultural Counsellor and Director of the China Cultural Centre, described the gesture as a symbol of the long-standing friendship between both nations.

He stressed that the “Chinese Corners” established across FCT schools serve as vital platforms for young Nigerians to learn the Chinese language, engage with Chinese culture, and deepen people-to-people exchanges.

“Education and culture are the bridges that connect our peoples and strengthen the foundations of China–Nigeria relations.  The Chinese Corner has opened a window for Nigerian students eager to learn Chinese and experience Chinese culture. Many of these students later pursued studies at Confucius Institutes and are now active contributors to China–Nigeria cooperation,” Yang said.

Speaking virtually, Huang Qiang, President of the People’s Education Press, praised the growing enthusiasm of Nigerian students for Chinese culture. He recalled his previous visit to Abuja, where he was impressed by the students’ eagerness to learn.

Huang pledged PEP’s continued support through the development of high-quality and tailored educational resources to meet the needs of African students. He revealed plans for upcoming initiatives, including the production of Chinese language teaching programs specifically designed for Nigerian classrooms, ahead of the 2026 China–Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges and the 55th anniversary of China–Nigeria diplomatic relations.

Earlier in his remarks, Muhammed Sani Ladan, Director of the FCT Secondary Education Board, commended the donation as a “beacon of hope for Nigerian education.” He expressed deep gratitude to the Chinese Embassy, the Cultural Counsellor, and the People’s Education Press for their consistent investment in Nigeria’s future through education.

He assured that the books will be effectively deployed in schools to enrich classrooms and inspire students, describing the donation as “a seed of shared prosperity for generations to come.”

The Chinese Corner Schools, established in 13 secondary schools across the Federal Capital Territory, have become key centres for promoting people-to-people ties. Managed by Nigerian teachers trained at the China Cultural Centre, they teach Mandarin and Chinese cultural knowledge, while organising cultural exchange programs for students.
