China and Tanzania have reaffirmed their longstanding friendship and commitment to building a shared future, with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi describing the bond between the two countries as a “valuable spiritual asset” forged by earlier generations of leaders.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks on Saturday during a meeting with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan in Dar es Salaam.

President Hassan asked Wang to convey her New Year greetings and best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping and expressed appreciation for China’s continued support for Tanzania’s development, particularly under the framework of the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

She reiterated Tanzania’s firm adherence to the one-China principle and said the country is ready to further align its national development plans with China’s development strategies. Hassan outlined Tanzania’s interest in expanding practical cooperation, revitalizing the Tanzania–Zambia Railway as a driver of regional prosperity, strengthening inter-party relations, broadening people-to-people exchanges, and promoting sustained economic growth for the benefit of both nations.

The Tanzanian leader also commended the four major global initiatives proposed by President Xi, noting that Tanzania is willing to enhance multilateral coordination with China and jointly work toward a more just and equitable global governance system.

Conveying President Xi’s cordial greetings to Hassan, Wang said China and Tanzania are close partners with a shared future whose friendship has endured shifting international dynamics. He emphasized that China places high importance on relations with Tanzania and is committed to advancing bilateral ties in line with the consensus reached by the two heads of state.

Wang said China is prepared to deepen cooperation with Tanzania in areas including governance experience sharing, practical development projects, and people-to-people exchanges, while advancing the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

He reaffirmed China’s support for Tanzania’s sovereignty, independence and chosen development path, and welcomed Tanzania’s continued commitment to the one-China principle. Wang also stressed the importance of high-quality cooperation, particularly the revitalization of the Tanzania–Zambia Railway, which he described as a potential engine for regional development.

China, he added, supports Tanzania’s role in regional and international affairs and is ready to work with Tanzania and other developing countries to promote peace, stability and global development.
