The Yalong River basin hydro-wind-photovoltaic multi-energy power base has reached a significant milestone by generating over 1 trillion kWh of electricity since its inception, according to the Yalong River Hydropower Development Company, Ltd.
Situated in the picturesque Yalong River basin in Sichuan Province, southwest China, the power base commenced its operations with the commissioning of its first power station in 1998. Over the past two decades, the cumulative clean energy generation from the power base has played a pivotal role in reducing approximately 800 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. This reduction is equivalent to the carbon sequestration of more than 8 million hectares of planted forests, as highlighted by the company, its developer, and its operator.
Currently, the power base operates seven large-scale hydropower stations and five wind and solar power projects, boasting a total installed capacity of around 21 million kilowatts. With an annual electricity generation capacity of approximately 90 billion kWh, the power base stands as a key player in sustainable energy production.
Looking ahead, the Yalong River Hydropower Development Company, Ltd. has outlined ambitious plans for the future. All ongoing construction projects are slated for completion by 2035, with the estimated annual power output expected to reach about 200 billion kWh. This strategic vision underscores the company’s dedication to advancing clean energy solutions and meeting the growing energy demands of the region in an environmentally friendly manner.
