China advocates an equal and orderly multi-polar world, and promotes inclusive economic globalization that benefits all, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Thursday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said certain or a few powers should not monopolize international affairs, and countries should not be categorized according to their “strength.”

“Those with the bigger fist should not have the final say. And it is definitely unacceptable that certain countries must be at the table while some others can only be on the menu,” he said.

Wang said an equal multi-polar world means equal rights, equal opportunities, and equal rules for every nation, and an orderly multi-polar world means all should observe the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.

“Multi-polarity doesn’t mean multiple blocs, or fragmentation, or disarray,” he said.

All countries must act within the UN-centered international system, and pursue cooperation under global governance, Wang added.

Universally beneficial globalization means growing the economic pie and sharing it more fairly, and inclusive globalization means supporting countries in pursuing a development path suited to their own national conditions, he said.

Wang made the comments when he took questions of journalists from home and abroad on China’s foreign policy and external relations at a press conference on the sidelines of the second session of the 14th National People’s Congress.

‘China was, is and will be member of Global South’

China looks forward to jointly creating a shining “South moment” in global governance, said Wang.

Independence is the distinct quality of the Global South and seeking strength through unity is its tradition, he said.

Wang continued, the Global South is no longer the “silent majority,” but a key force for reforming the international order and a source of hope as the world undergoes profound changes unseen in a century.

“China was, is and will be a steadfast member of the Global South,” he stressed.

China goes through thick and thin and heads toward a shared future together with countries of the South, and it is always a crucial force for the development and prosperity of the Global South, said Wang.

In addition, Wang stressed the importance of BRICS in global governance.

“A stronger BRICS means growing force for peace and increasing international support for justice. It should not be seen as a challenge,” he said.
