The China Cultural Center in Abuja on Thursday, June 13th, hosted an exhibition featuring the work of Chinese artists inspired by their travels across various African nations.
The exhibition, which drew in over 200 attendees, including students, art enthusiasts, and dignitaries such as Li Xuda, the Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy and Director of the China Cultural Center in Nigeria, offered a unique window into the diverse cultures and landscapes of the African continent.
In his remarks, Counsellor Li Xuda expressed his belief that the exhibition would “strengthen and improve the cultural exchange and the traditional friendship between Nigeria and China.” He went on to describe the paintings as providing “more insights into the African continent and its rich cultural heritage.”
“I think through this photo exhibition, we can know more about African countries, including Senegal, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Mauritius,” Counsellor Li said, further describing Africa as “a land of culture” and “a land of hope,” highlighting the splendid civilizations, natural resources, and the beautiful daily lives of the people.
When asked about the potential impact of such exhibitions in changing the narrative surrounding Africa, Counsellor Li was optimistic, stating, “It will have a very positive impact,” while acknowledging the need for a step-by-step approach.
“Through this, people will know more about the beautiful side of Africa, and its beautiful people. Through this, people know more about the positive side. It will give them hope, give them confidence for the future of African countries.”
The exhibition featured over 20 paintings, including works by Duan Tie Jun, Chairman of Tianjin Arts and Culture Photography Association, and Chen Cheng, which were unveiled by Counsellor Xuda to the delight and admiration of the attendees.
Following the unveiling, the guests embarked on a tour of the photo exhibition, giving them a glimpse into the captivating beauty of the African continent.
The exhibition, a demonstration of the growing cultural ties between China and Africa, has been hailed as a powerful platform to showcase the richness and diversity of the African continent, challenging stereotypes and fostering mutual understanding between the two nations.
