The Kaduna State government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei Technologies Company Nigeria Limited to kickstart the much-anticipated smart city project. The agreement was formalized on Tuesday by Kaduna Governor Uba Sani and Chris Lu, CEO of Huawei Nigeria, during a ceremony held at Huawei’s headquarters in Beijing, China.

The event was attended by notable figures including President Bola Tinubu, various state governors, ministers, and senior government officials, underscoring the importance of this initiative.

Governor Sani highlighted the objectives of the MoU in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the project aims to enhance security, efficiency, and transparency in public services, while also boosting competitiveness, city management, and attracting talent and investment to the region. “The ultimate goal is the establishment of a safer and smarter Kaduna State,” he emphasized.

As part of this partnership, Huawei will provide a range of advanced solutions and technical support across several key areas, including State-Level Unified Command Center,  Enhanced Security Measures, Intelligent Traffic Systems, E-Government and Office Automation, Smart Education Initiatives, Smart Healthcare Solutions, ICT Talent Development, Renewable Energy Projects and Public Transportation Enhancements.

To ensure the effective implementation of the project, Governor Sani announced the establishment of a joint committee between the Kaduna State government and Huawei. This committee will be responsible for detailing the implementation plan, determining funding arrangements, and selecting the appropriate technologies to be deployed.

The governor reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to ensuring that the smart city project is deliverable, sustainable, and valuable for the people of Kaduna. This partnership with Huawei is set to pave the way for a transformative era in urban management and public service delivery in the state.

Intermodal express trains loaded with 50-foot containers respectively departed from east China's Shanghai, Guangzhou, Changsha of central China's Hunan Province and Kunming of southwest China's Yunnan Province on Wednesday, joining force of regular freight train service. The 50-foot containers are independently developed by China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (China Railway), each with a weight of 36 tonnes and a load capacity of 30.85 tonnes. The volume of these containers reaches 114.4 cubic meters, a 50 percent increase over that of 40-foot international standard containers, making them the largest containers by volume that have been put into use in China by far.
