The China Cultural Centre in Nigeria has marked its 10th anniversary with a media appreciation day to celebrate a decade of friendship and cultural exchanges between Nigeria and China.
Speaking at the event held at the centre’s premises in Abuja, Hu Heping, China’s Minister of Culture and Tourism said for the past ten years, the centre has served as a platform for the dissemination of Chinese culture, contributing to the establishment of an image for China which is respectable and enduring.
He said the centre has emerged as a crucial platform for the people of Nigeria to experience the unique charm of Chinese culture and the dynamic development of contemporary China.
The minister noted that the centre is an essential window for the people of China to acquaint themselves with Nigeria, deepening friendship between the people and fostering a pivotal link of friendly relations between China, Nigeria and Africa.
He added that through the cultural centre, China will enhance more people-to-people cultural exchanges with Nigeria, promote mutual learning on civilizations and advance collaboration between artistic institutions.
Also speaking, Ngozi Onwudiwe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Culture and Otunba Runsewe, Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, thanked the centre for promoting cultural exchanges and harmony between Nigeria and China.
Guests at the event were treated to Nigerian and Chinese musical displays by the China National Traditional Orchestra and Nigerian music groups.
Established on September 9, 2013, the China Cultural Centre facilitates cultural exchanges between China and Nigeria.
It has organized and hosted several activities such as art exhibitions, musical concerts, Nigeria-China cultural performances, learning of the Chinese language, and programs for schools and members of the Nigeria-China community.
The centre is the second in Sub-Saharan Africa and 14th in the world.
