Joseph Tegbe, the newly appointed Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, has emphasized the importance of fostering a cohesive relationship to enhance the delivery of beneficial initiatives between Nigeria and China.
Tegbe believes that a unified partnership will address Nigeria’s immediate needs and establish a foundation for long-term prosperity.
During a recent meeting with a delegation from the Chinese business community, he said, “In alignment with President Tinubu’s vision for China to transition from a lender and trade partner to a key player in Nigeria’s industrialization efforts, I am committed to cultivating bilateral collaborations that promote sustainable development and economic advancement in Nigeria.”
He highlighted the significance of education and skills development within this partnership, asserting that Nigeria’s national curriculum must prioritize vocational training and exchange programs. “We need to go beyond traditional degrees and diplomas. It is essential to create avenues for young Nigerians to acquire the skills necessary for a rapidly changing job market,” he added.
Additionally, during a visit to the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI), Tegbe expressed his readiness to present a strategic action plan as directed by the President. He has engaged with key stakeholders from both nations to formulate this plan.
“Learning from past and current agreements between the Chinese government, businesses, and Nigeria’s Federal and State Governments, it is vital that we focus on transparency, accountability, and strategic implementation as we embark on this new phase of economic relations with China,” Tegbe said.
Tegbe also pointed out that agriculture remains a critical focus area in the partnership. He aims to collaborate with China to modernize Nigeria’s agricultural practices by introducing innovative, cost-effective technologies and sustainable farming methods. This initiative seeks to boost productivity and improve the livelihoods of farmers, ensuring that food remains accessible and affordable throughout the country.
