The Chinese government has pledged more military support to Nigeria in its determination to tackle all forms of insecurity, especially counter-terrorism and sea piracy.
Defense Attache, Colonel Lin Wei, disclosed this at a reception to celebrate the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA), held at the Chinese Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
“The Chinese military is steadfast in its commitment to maintaining world peace and stability. China is committed to building a new type of security partnership based on equality, mutual trust, cooperation and win-win outcomes. China has engaged in military cooperation with over 150 countries., he said.
“To help improve the counter-terrorism and anti-piracy capabilities of the Nigerian military, China provided military aid worth 110 million yuan in 2022. The stable development of the China-Nigeria military-to-military relationship relies on the wisdom and efforts of knowledgeable individuals from both sides.
“I sincerely thank all relevant personnel for their positive contributions to the military exchanges between the two countries and pledge the readiness of the Chinese government to deepen military support for Nigeria.”
The event, which attracted representatives from the Nigerian armed forces and military officers from different countries also played host to Chinese Ambassador Cui Jianchun, members of the diplomatic community and friends of China in Nigeria.
Founded on August 1, 1927, The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) consists of five service branches: The Ground Force, Navy, Air Force, Rocket Force, and Strategic Support Force.
With over 2 million military personnel, the PLA is the largest army in the world.
