In its desire to deepen friendship and promote harmony in diversity, a leading Chinese company, Sinoma Nigeria Limited on Saturday hosted the “Sinoma-Nigeria Fashion Show” at the China Cultural Centre in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
In his welcome remarks, Geng Fugtao, Managing Director of Sinoma Nigeria Limited, said the fashion show showcases the rich culture of China and Nigeria and promotes cultural exchange between the two nations.
Mr Fugtao said Nigeria and China take pride in their cultural heritage, which is rooted in history and has continued to evolve in the modern world.
He said, “Clothing is not just a material possession but a representation of culture and fashion. It is a language that adds beauty to our lives and remains a timeless aspect of our existence. It serves as a reflection of our history and a symbol of the current era.
“Cultural enrichment and development are achieved through exchange and mutual learning by embracing the diversity of national and traditional cultures. I firmly believe that the Sinoma-Nigeria fashion show will effectively showcase the rich culture of China and Nigeria. We are also promoting the cultural exchange between China and Nigeria,” he added.
Earlier in his remarks, Li Xuda, Cultural Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, said fashion is an important part of the culture, passed one generation after another, and “the clothes we wear tell stories of our culture and our heritage”.
He said fashion shows have become a popular entertainment and demonstration worldwide and acted as a special language of global communication.
“Fashion shows can build a bridge of friendship between China and Nigeria. What we are doing here today will provide an interactive platform for enjoying our life, understanding our national fashion culture, exchanging ideas, discovering creative talents and serving as a medium to develop the fashion industry.”
A major highlight of the event was the colourful runway display of Chinese and Nigerian fashion costumes by beautifully dressed models.
Affiliated to China National Building Materials (CNBM) Group Corporation, Sinoma specializes in constructing cement plants, refineries, power plants, roads and bridges. They also manufacture stone-coated roofing sheets and fibre cement boards.
