For 15 years in a row, China has maintained its position as Africa’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade hitting a record $282.1 billion in 2023, as stated by a Ministry of Commerce official on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference, Ministry of Commerce official Jiang Wei emphasized that economic and trade cooperation is crucial for China-Africa relations.
The State Council of China has given the green light to a comprehensive plan to establish a pilot zone for deepening economic and trade cooperation between China and Africa.
As per the plan, China aims to develop the pilot zone into a platform with significant international influence for engaging and collaborating with Africa by 2027.
Jiang highlighted that the primary objective is to create a globally competitive platform for collaboration with Africa.
In the future, both parties will leverage the pilot zone’s leadership role to drive the transformation and enhancement of bilateral economic and trade cooperation, ultimately benefiting the people of China and Africa.
