The United States of America has warned of an imminent terror attack in Abuja, the capital city of Nigeria.
According to a statement from the US Embassy via its official website on Sunday, likely targets may include but are not limited to government buildings, places of worship, schools, markets, shopping malls, hotels, bars, restaurants, athletic gatherings, transport terminals, law enforcement facilities, and international organizations.
The embassy advised American citizens in Abuja to avoid all non-essential travel or movement, stay on alert, avoid crowds, carry proper identification and keep their cell phones charged in case of emergency.
The embassy noted that it will offer only skeletal services for the time being.
Meanwhile, the Department of State Services (DSS) has called on Nigerian citizens to be on the alert and remain calm following the security advisory by the United States of America.
The DSS through its spokesperson, Dr Peter Afunanya, enjoined citizens to assist security agencies with valuable information regarding threats and suspicious criminal acts around them.
