The Chinese Embassy in Nigeria on Tuesday inaugurated the 13th Chinese Corner at Government Secondary School, Wuse, FCT-Abuja. The corner serves as a resource centre for Chinese education and a hub for cultural exchange between Nigeria and China.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a host of distinguished guests, including Yu Duhai, the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria; Muhammed Sani Ladan, Director of the FCT Secondary Education Board (FCT-SEB); and Yang Jianxing, Director of the China Cultural Center in Nigeria. Other notable attendees included Martin Chen, Chairman of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) Nigeria Limited, along with various government officials and members of the academic community.

In his remarks, Ambassador Yu said the corner, built with the assistance of the China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), is equipped with computers, Chinese literature, and films, creating a vibrant space for cultural exploration.

He noted that the corner offers unique insights into the rich culture of the Chinese people and plays a crucial role in promoting cross-cultural communication and understanding between Nigeria and China.

Ambassador Yu reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening educational partnerships with Nigeria, particularly following President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to China, which resulted in an agreement to enhance bilateral relations.

“We aim to establish more Chinese Corners and provide greater opportunities for Nigerian teachers and students to visit and train in China,” the envoy stated.

Earlier in her remarks, Josephine Ugwu, Principal of Government Secondary School  Wuse, noted that the Chinese Corner will broaden students’ global perspectives, exposing them to a world beyond their borders and helping them become global citizens.

“Through various programs, language classes, arts, and cultural activities hosted here, our students will have a unique opportunity to appreciate the rich traditions, philosophy, and innovations of Chinese civilization,” she said.

Also speaking, Muhammed Sani Ladan, Director of FCT-SEB, said the collaboration between the board and the embassy has provided Nigerian students with valuable educational support, including scholarships and capacity-building opportunities, while also offering the Chinese community cultural exposure to Nigeria’s youth.

He extended his gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for its relentless efforts in promoting education and culture in Nigeria.

The event also witnessed the donation of educational materials by China Harbour Engineering Company and the presentation of prizes to winners of the “Nihao China” Painting Competition.
