China will advance the energy revolution and actively and prudently work towards peaking carbon dioxide emissions and achieving carbon neutrality, Chinese Premier Li Qiang said on Tuesday as he delivered a work report at the opening of the second session of the 14th National People’s Congress in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The country will also enhance ecological conservation and promote green and low-carbon development, taking comprehensive steps to improve the environment as well as boosting the green and low-carbon economy, Li said.
According to the report, China will push forward ecological and environmental governance, rolling out action plans to improve the quality of the air, water resources and aquatic ecosystems, as well as strengthen the preventive control on soil pollution and waste.
China will also continue to pursue a carbon peak and carbon neutrality with a slew of action plans, including increasing the capability to calculate carbon emissions and setting up a carbon footprint management system. Other policies include managing the consumption of fossil fuels, speeding up the buildup of a new energy system, enhancing the utilization of new energy and effectively distributing energy resources.
The report added the country will boost the development of the green economy, transforming industries to be greener in the fields of energy, transportation, and urban and rural construction.
