The Lagos State government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) to construct the much-anticipated Lekki-Epe link bridge.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, made the announcement on Wednesday after signing the deal in the presence of President Bola Tinubu — who is on an official visit to China.
The governor highlighted that discussions regarding the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the bridge have been fruitful, with feasibility and design studies already completed.
“By focusing on key road networks, we aim to reduce traffic congestion and create a seamless commuting experience, all while supporting economic growth,” Sanwo-Olu stated.
In addition to the bridge project, the Lagos State government also signed another MoU aimed at implementing solar power systems across various tertiary institutions in the state.
“We also signed another MoU to implement solar power systems across our tertiary institutions, including Lagos State University and its campuses, Lagos State University of Science and Technology, Lagos State University of Education, and Lagos State College of Medicine,” he said.
“These solar systems, expected to generate about 50 MW, will provide cleaner and more affordable electricity. This project demonstrates our commitment to sustainable energy as a key part of our economic development.”
